Umbria ~ Sangiovese

The origin of the name Sangiovese is uncertain. Some argue that it derives from "sangiovannese" i.e. originally from San Giovanni Valdarno, while others argue that it derives from "sanguegiovese", i.e. "blood of Jupiter", in reference to Monte Giove. The term Sangiovese defines a large number of varieties, or clones, in which the vine has differentiated over the centuries, adapting to the different territories.

Sangiovese opens to the nose with fruity notes of red and black berried fruits as well as marked floral notes of violet. Among the fruits, we mainly recognize: black cherry, raspberry, plum, blueberry and blackberry. On the palate, the Sangiovese vine has a marked acidity and an appreciable tannin content.
